Historic Preservation

Updating Lake Bluff's historic preservation rules may help better preserve and transmit its architectural history. The Historic Preservation Commission has prepared a slate of proposed changes and wants to hear your views. The Commission has scheduled a series of public meetings to hear your feedback - mark your calendar:
Your comments are welcome at all meetings; the topics are simply to help you choose a session that would be most interesting to you. More details are available at lakebluff.org/Preservation.
Village and Community Updates
COVID-19 UPDATE. All regions in the State of Illinois are at Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan. COVID-19 is still in our community, and we need to continue to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, and work towards full vaccination of our community. You can register with Lake County Health Department to be notified when its your time to receive the vaccine.
SAFETY FIRST. If you're out walking in an area of the Village that is without sidewalks, please, make sure you walk facing traffic. Drivers, remember to drive carefully on our neighborhood streets and keep an eye out for other users.
FROM SEED TO... On February 10, learn about starting plants from seed and get ready for spring. This workshop a collaboration between the University of Illinois Extension and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) to improve composting and food waste diversion from landfills.
LFHS SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH. Our high school district is searching for a new superintendent and wants to hear your views. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete and will be available until Monday, February 15.
LEAD-ING THE SCOREBOARD. LEAD is our area non-profit dedicated to youth drug and alcohol abuse prevention. Join their virtual trivia night on Saturday, February 20 and help support this important work.
SUBSCRIBE AND SAVE. Lake Bluff has partnered with six other North Shore suburbs to create Illinois' largest municipally sponsored community solar program. Community solar allows residents and small businesses to subscribe and save 20% on their electricity supply charges through bill credits while supporting renewable energy development. Board and Committee Actions
For more information, visit the Village's meeting packets and videos page. Agendas and meeting materials are typically available the Friday before a meeting; videos within a week after the meeting; and minutes after they are approved at the next meeting of the public body. Not all meetings are recorded on video. Due to the COVID-19 emergency, meetings are primarily virtual. Click here for details on the format and how to participate.
The Architectural Board of Review's regular meeting on Tuesday, February 2 was cancelled.
Recent Historic Preservation Commission Listening Session (February 3, 7 p.m.).
The Historic Preservation Commission hosted a listening session regarding Lake Bluff's historic preservation regulations with a focus on administrative and process concerns.
Upcoming Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting (February 8, 6 p.m.). The COW will discuss:
- Extending outdoor food and beverage opportunities throughout 2021.
- Consider waiving liquor license fees for restaurants and drinking establishments.
- Review a draft survey of Lake Bluff's business community regarding COVID-19 relief.
- Consider design modifications to the Central Business District streetscape, including a proposal to make part of Scranton Avenue a one-way street to increase public parking.
Upcoming Village Board Meeting (February 8, 7 p.m.). The Village Board will consider:
- Extending the Village's state of emergency.
- Concluding a 3-year pilot program for residential chicken and beekeeping by adopting a licensing program.
- Budget amendments that reflect reduced revenues and increased expenses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Approving a professional services agreement with Teska Associates to review the Village's planned residential development regulations.
Upcoming Historic Preservation Commission Listening Session (February 10, 7 p.m.).
The Historic Preservation Commission will host a listening session regarding Lake Bluff's historic preservation regulations. While all comments are welcome at all meetings, this meeting will focus on financial concerns under the revised regulations. (The HPC will also conduct its regular meeting business.) |
