Message from Village President Kathleen O'Hara

I hear from so many residents that they are desperately looking forward to closing out 2020. Without question, it has been a tough and unusual year for many people and for many reasons. In just a few hours, 2020 will end but we will enter into 2021 with much of the same baggage that we are have been carrying for most of the year. That said, carrying that baggage has made us stronger. I am encouraged by the resiliency and creativity shown by our residents, businesses and local institutions during this difficult year and I am confident that the challenges of the new year will be answered.
Just as our seasonal special event’s moniker says --- it’s still a wonderful life in Lake Bluff.
Happy New Year, all!
Village and Community Updates
SO LONG, 2020. Village Hall and the Recycling Center will be closed to the public on New Year's Day.
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END. Groot will collect Christmas trees at no additional cost starting next week. You have until January 15 to place your Christmas tree at the curb for collection and recycling.
JUST A LITTLE BIT LONGER. The COVID-19 vaccine is already being administered in our area. Because vaccine supply will be limited at first, certain groups of people who are at higher risk will be eligible for vaccination before others. Lake County Health Department is asking that you register now so that you can be notified when you are eligible to receive the vaccine.
LOSE SOME WEIGHT THIS HOLIDAY. Did you know that Groot will collect one bulky item each week at no additional cost? You can always check the Village website for more information about disposal options.
SUBSCRIBE AND SAVE. Lake Bluff has partnered with six other North Shore suburbs to create Illinois' largest municipally sponsored community solar program. Community solar allows residents and small businesses to subscribe and save 20% on their electricity supply charges through bill credits while supporting renewable energy development. For more information, visit lakebluff.org/CommunitySolar.
Board and Committee Actions
For more information, visit the Village's meeting packets and videos page. Agendas and meeting materials are typically available the Friday before a meeting; videos within a week after the meeting; and minutes after they are approved at the next meeting of the public body. Not all meetings are recorded on video. Due to the COVID-19 emergency, meetings are primarily virtual. Click here for details on the format and how to participate.
Upcoming Electoral Board Meeting (Monday, January 4, 2 p.m.). The Municipal Officers Electoral Board will consider objections to the nomination petitions of four candidates for municipal office:
- Aaron Towle, Village Trustee
- Katharine Hatch, Village Clerk
- Susan Rider, Village Trustee
- Mary ("Mickey") Collins, Village Trustee
Monday's meeting is only an initial meeting and each case will be called for preliminary matters only. However, additional meetings of the Electoral Board may be scheduled prior to the next edition of the Lake Bluff Letter. Notice of each meeting will be provided on lakebluff.org and as required by law.
Upcoming Architectural Board of Review Meeting (Tuesday, January 5, 7 p.m.). The ABR will review a sign permit application for Bedolla's Auto Body (104 Skokie Valley Road). |
