Face Coverings Mandatory in Lake Bluff Starting Tomorrow
Village President Kathleen O'Hara issued an emergency order requiring all individuals in Lake Bluff to wear a face covering when in public places. The order takes effect tomorrow, Friday, April 24 at 5 p.m. and will continue throughout the COVID-19 emergency.
"Our use of face coverings is critical to protect each other, as well as for the safe reopening of businesses and public life under the Governor's revised order," said Village President O'Hara. "We need to start this practice now for the safety of residents, essential workers, and visitors of our Village."
Specifically, the Order requires that individuals wear a face covering over their nose and mouth while:
- Working in or patronizing essential businesses.
- Shopping for necessary supplies and services.
- Visiting healthcare professionals.
- Riding in public transportation, taxis, or ride shares.
There are limited exceptions to this requirement for:
- Children younger than five years old.
- Persons who cannot safely wear a face covering.
- Engaging in outdoor recreational activity while at least six feet from others.
- Riding in personal automobiles.
- Remaining at home or in a private space with members of the same household.
More information about appropriate face coverings is available on the Village's website here. You should not feel that you can go outside more frequently. Face coverings primarily reduce the risk that others will contract COVID-19 if you have the virus but do not have symptoms. It is still important to stay home, stay at least six feet away from others, and abstain from social gatherings.
Lake Bluff businesses are encouraged to post prominent notices to guests, such as these:
Stay At Home Order Extension Anticipated
Today, Governor Pritzker announced his intent to extend the Stay at Home order to May 30th. Some modifications will take effect May 1, including the mandatory statewide use of face coverings and the reopening of some retail businesses and state parks. More details will be released when the Governor signs the extension next week.
